LSS of South Dakota

LSS of South Dakota cares for, supports, and strengthens individuals, families, and communities through a range of statewide programs and services.

As one of the largest private non-profit human services agencies in the state, LSS impacts the lives of 27,759 South Dakotans each year. LSS serves people of all ages, faiths, races, and economic statuses with professional, confidential, and affordable services.

  • LSS has earned continuous COA accreditation for more than 20 years. This accreditation attests that LSS meets the highest national standards and delivers the best quality services to the communities it serves. The COA accreditation process involves an in-depth examination of the agency’s compliance with best practice standards. This is a six-month agency-wide process that includes a self-study by the agency and an on-site study by a COA team of reviewers.


  • The South Dakota Synod is one of the 65 Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a church deeply and confidently rooted in the Gospel of God’s grace that we are free to give our lives joyfully in witness and service. The SD Synod consists of 212 congregations.


  • LSA is one of the largest health and human services networks in the country. A network of more than 300 members touches the lives of 1 in 50 people each year in thousands of communities across the U.S. and the Caribbean.


  • United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities to advance the common good. United Way goes beyond temporary fixes to create lasting change in communities. By bringing people and organizations together around innovative solutions, United Ways impact millions of lives every year across the country.


  • Licensed by the State of South Dakota

    LSS services licensed by the State of South Dakota include childcare & education services, psychiatric residential treatment, group care, shelter care, pregnancy counseling, adoption, foster care, kinship services, intensive independent living.
