We offer Foster Care and Kinship Services throughout South Dakota to provide safe, loving homes and supportive, healthy families for children who are unable to remain with their parents.

Serving as a Foster Family or a Kinship Caregiver isn't just about welcoming a child into your home—it’s about offering hope and belonging, helping them understand their value and potential.

Foster Care Services

Treatment Foster Care serves children with emotional, social, and behavioral needs, including those affected by trauma, developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, abuse and neglect.

Treatment Foster Families receive specialized training, tools and resources, helping provide structured and trauma-informed care for children who are unable to remain with their parents and need extra supports.

Services include:

Educational and vocational support

Medical and mental health services

Counseling and therapy

Treatment and transition planning

Supervision and support for foster families

Engagement with birth families or legal guardians

Permanency planning

24/7 on-call support

Kinship Services

Kinship care is a powerful way to keep children connected to their family roots while providing them with much-needed love, stability, and security. When a child cannot remain with their parents, kinship caregivers—such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, or close family friends—step in to offer a safe, familiar environment.

If you’re a relative or close family friend considering becoming a kinship caregiver, we’re here to support you.

Our Kinship Home Study Specialists work with family members, fictive kin, and other prospective caregivers to ensure their home and family system is safe, stable, and suitable for children. Our Kinship Locators help children who are removed from their homes and cannot return—searching to identify, locate, and engage relatives who may be able to become kinship caregivers.
